Moonli Singha Tennis Biography

Moonli Singha is a former world ranked Junior Tennis player.

She remained in the top-20 (with the exception of a couple of weeks) through August 1991. Her singles highlights included Walt Disney Tournament in 1989 (where she won against Sophie Amiach of France), Singapore Open (winning against Li Fang of China in 1990  and Emanuela Zardo of Switzerland in 1991). Moonli has defeated many top players including Gabriela Sabatini, Carling Basset and Stephanie Rehe.  She has played in Junior Wimbledon, Junior US Open, Arthur Ashe Championships and mainly Futures and Satellites in Asia and Europe. A multi-surface specialist, Moonli began an illustrious career at an early age. She was a natural clay court player who liked to spin-and-charge and serve-and-volley and was well-known for her powerful  ground strokes. In 1990, Moonli went to Bradenton, Florida, to train at Nick Bollettieri's celebrated tennis academy.
After suffering from sciatica caused by two bulging discs in her back, a spondylolisthesis (vertebral displacement) and a bone spur that interfered with the nerve, Moonli retired from the tennis circuit after losing in the semi-finals of the New York University Championships in 1994.
She resides in New York City, and plays in occasional exhibitions for many charitable causes. In December, 2010, Moonli played an exhibition match for the annual charity event, hosted by Jim Courier and Elton John, and raised more than $400,000 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. She continues to play exhibition matches for under-privileged children around the globe.
